Modifications

The following are repairs and modifications that we've made to the boat.
She had a few issues that we knew about prior to the purchase. We knew that the fuel gauge didn't work for one reason or another, the starboard engine's power tilt/trim did not function, the same engine ran rough from idle up till around 2500 rpm, and the bilge pump didn't work.

As of 10-14-2007

First...I removed the trim motor from the starboard engine (not a fun job!) and found that the housing had a rust hole on the back side. This motor is located just below the drain hole for the motorwell...so it got alot of saltwater drained over it...thus the hole. The new motor was $149.00.

Next came the rough idle issue. I checked everything that I knew to check, tried fresh fuel, carb cleaning spray...ect...still ran rough. I ended up bartering with a customer of mine for a carb rebuild and sync...that did the trick! I also had him replace the waterpump impellers on both engines...good thing too...one of them was missing a few blades!

I checked all of the wiring for the fuel gauge and sending units...everything looked fine...so I pulled the tanks and removed the sending units. Both were bad as the inside wires were corroded and loose. New sending units have been ordered.

The bilge pump was strange...there's a switch at the helm...but the pump was wired straight from the starboard battery...up to the back of the cabin (where there was a 2 pronge in-line plug) and back to the pump....I have no idea why it was done this way. I connected the plug, and the pump came on...ran for about 5 seconds...and stopped. It did this every time I plugged the wires together.
I've decided to install a switch near the stern for the new pump, as well as add 2 new accessory jacks back there for fishing lights.

Added a twin bank onboard battery charger. Purchased a GFI outlet box and pigtail. Haven't mounted it yet...awaiting the purchase of a waterproof shorepower connector.

Added a powerhorn exterior speaker for use as a loudhailer and foghorn (the ICOM 504 radio has a program for an auto-foghorn).

The new sending units came in, and are now installed. This has cured the fuel gauge system. I replaced the fuel fill and vent lines while everything was out, also replaced the anti-syphon valves.

After a wonderful first trip on the Tennessee River, work resumed on the canvas cockpit enclosure. Should be finished tomorrow!
