This is our home lake, located just 45 minutes from our home in east Asheville. We have a camper set up on the east side
of the lake, at the mouth of the North Fork Catawba River.
I've been boating and camping on this lake since I was a kid. The lake is much more populated now, but remains a very
scenic place to enjoy the water.
We keep a 24' pontoon boat at the campground, as well as 2 of our kayaks.
We kayak up the North Fork and main branch of the Catawba river from the lake. We can go 2 miles up the North Fork before
we hit class II rapids, and beautiful tumbling water. We can paddle several miles up the main branch before the current gets
too strong.
The pontoon is rigged up for lounging on the lake, and fishing! We installed 27 rod holders for nightime crappie fishing.
We rebuilt the entire boat back in 2005, and installed a rear bench seat, rear sun deck, and left most of the deck wide open...leaving
enough room for a cabin tent if we want to camp on the boat. Stackable plastic chairs are kept aboard for cruising.
The C Dory will also be used on Lake James in the winter.
